This report is the first we have been responsible for since we became JETRO's Platform Coordinator.
Malaysia is working towards achieving net zero by 2050, and in April 2026 the National Carbon Market Policy (NCMP) was announced. The institutional and business environment surrounding the carbon market is expected to change even more significantly in the future.
This report provides an overview of the current state of the carbon credit market in Malaysia, summarizes the policy direction of the Malaysian government as outlined in the NCMP, and introduces future business opportunities and market entry possibilities for Japanese companies.
In Malaysia, new business opportunities, including carbon markets, are emerging as policies toward decarbonization progress. We believe that one of our important roles is to communicate these changes to all Japanese companies and connect them to real-world business.
This report is my first step as JETRO Platform Coordinator, and I am a Borderless Consulting Sdn. Bhd. will continue to disseminate information on Malaysian policies and market trends, and will work to support businesses connecting Japan and Malaysia.
